Toy Testing Standards

time:2025-03-02

Introduction to the European Toy Directive

Since January 1990, the European Union has required that all toy products on the market within the Union must comply with the CE marking standard and indicate the CE marking on the toy packaging.

Based on the objective of protecting consumer health and safety, toys can be freely circulated in the European market, and toys manufactured according to unified standards should meet the "Basic Safety Requirements for Toys", which are divided into "General Principles" and "Special Hazards". Any product or material, tool, designed obviously for children under the age of 14 to play with, should be clearly or predictably used by users without posing a risk to the safety and health of users or third parties. The "CE" mark on the toy is a guarantee from the toy manufacturer or the authorized agent that the toy complies with these standard requirements.

        General Principles:

   1. Related to the design, structure, and composition of the toy, and any potential hazards should be modified to eliminate them if they exist.

   2. The labeling on the toy or packaging, as well as supplementary instructions on the use method, must effectively attract the attention of the toy user or their supervisor to the dangers of use and the methods to avoid these dangers. (See supplementary explanations below)

Special Hazards: These are generally well-known,

   1. Physical and mechanical aspects

   2. Flammability

   3. Chemistry

   4. Electrical characteristics

   5. Hygiene

   6. Radioactivity
